After 17 events, Perez 63rd in FedExCup points...
Five months into the 2010 PGA Tour season and with two off weeks on the horizon, let's break down where Pat Perez is after seventeen events.2010 opened with PP headed to Hawai'i a week earlier than normal, earning an invite to this year's SBS Championship after last year's win at the Bob Hope classic. After a 71-70 start in Maui, Perez closed out with a 67-79 run on the weekend, opening the season with a T10th finish. A week later another Sony Open in Honolulu where Perez finished T46th after a final round 73.
From the islands to the desert, PP returned to Palm Springs to defend his Bob Hope Classic title. After five rounds and a T26th finish, Perez netted $210,460 after three straight cuts and the 2010 season opened on a strong note.
Southern California didn't treat Perez well with a missed cut at the newly named Farmers Insurance Classic (69-76) and another missed cut at Riviera for the Northern Trust Open (73-73). Perez bounced back the following week at Pebble Beach with a T35th finish, again pairing up with long-timer partner, pro surfer Kelly Slater.
Perez skipped Mayakoba and didn't make the field for the Accenture Match Play event in Tucson, so it was a down week leading up to the Waste Management Phoenix Open, down the street from his Scottsdale residence. Perez opened with a blazing round of 65, followed up with a second round 68 and went 71-71 over the weekend for a T24th finish.
It marked Perez's best run at TPC Scottsdale. After missing six straight cuts at the Phoenix Open, Perez earned a T43rd finish in 2008 and T48th in 2009 before a top twenty-five in 2010.
Perez skipped the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens as he wasn't in the World Golf Championship at Doral the following week. After a missed cut at the Transitions Championship in Tampa, PP reeled in a T40th finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando late March.
Early April to early May were a rough patch for Perez. A missed cut at the Shell Houston Open (73-74), a W/D after one round at the rain soaked Zurich Classic, a missed cut at the Quail Hollow Championship (76-71) and a similar outing at The PLAYERS Championship (71-72) before going on a four-week tear which ended last week.
Perez responded to adversity with a T22nd finish at the Valero Texas Open, highlighted with a second round 66. From there, a T32nd finish at the Byron Nelson Classic and an impressive T10th at the Colonial - marking the first time Perez put together four straight rounds in the 60s since the Frys Open in 2009.
In his last outing before this recent hiatus, a T19th finish at the Memorial followed by missing out on the US Open after a Monday qualifier.
After seventeen, Perez has hauled in $622,459 on the season and has 433 FedExCup points, putting him at 63rd in the standings. PP has reeled in two top tens, five top twenty fives and has made ten cuts on the year.
Perez was further ahead at this point in '09, having won in the desert and finished T4th at the Arnold Palmer. PP played 23 total events last season, finishing 46th in FedExCup points and hauling in over $1.7M on the year - $918,000 if which came from the Hope win.
PP will be back in action late June. Tune in to see how the 2010 season wraps up for the nine-year veteran.
